Containers

A container is a region of the page or template in which you can schedule a publishing rule. Publishing rules are discrete pieces of functionality that can add dynamic content to your page. For example, a list of the latest News or Event content items in the database.

There are two types of containers in the FarCry solution:

  • Page level containers
  • Shared containers

Page level containers

These containers are unique to the page. If you make a change to these containers the change will only be reflected on the page in question. Page level containers are managed through the presentation layer by going into "designmode" and clicking on the relevant Edit Container widget made visible in the template.

Shared containers

A shared container can be mirrored by different pages throughout the site. For example, you might pre-set a container to include the latest Investor News. Rather than having to configure a specific container for each page that needs this information, you can simply point individual page level containers to mirror the contents of your shared container.

Shared containers are administered through the FarCry webtop under CONTENT > Content Utilities > Shared Containers.

Shared containers are sometimes referred to as "Reflections" or "Mirrored Containers".

Q. If I update a shared container will these changes be global?

Yes. Any page level container mirroring your shared container content will be updated. No other containers will be changed as a result of modifying a shared container.
