the reasoning behind different images directories
The Pliant design sites uses 2 images directories:
- for images which are decorative only & referenced by the css file (www/css/images). eg: page backgrounds, textured column backgrounds etc, and;
- for images which are part of the content and should be inserted as regular images into the html markup (www/images). eg: site logo, a brand logo, a teaser image
An important difference is when you reference an image from the css you are using it as a background image. You cannot click on it. So a good rule to remember is, "will I ever need to click on this image?" If so, its an image that contains content, and it should be inserted into the html markup as a regular image - as you may need to wrap an href tag around it at some stage.
This reasoning is the same for all sites - farcry / flat / whatever. A great benefit of this practice is you can very easily change the complete design of a site by replacing the (www/css) folder. All of your decorative images are seperated from content images - and makes redesigning a breeze. (because you dont inadvertently delete any important content based images)
www/images directory
The www/images directory is the default directory reserved for uploaded images managed by FarCry itself. Nothing but images in the FarCry image library should be stored here.
